Its History
The restaurant " La Pieve Vecchia " is laid out on a site where between the 5th and 6th Century the early christian parish church of Sant'Animo was built.
Here we are dealing with a group of ancient architecture, who's fascination and prestigious origin ramains unchanged throughout the centuries.
The name Pieve Vecchia has always been conserved even after, in around the 6th century the curch Sant'Animo was moved to a safer position on the hillside on the other side of the connecting road between Monterchi & Città di Castello, where even today is visible.
The building from this moment became utilised for the united administration of tenants & foreigners in property that Sant'Animo possessed in the surrounding area.
This whole agreement took place from the beginning of the 1600, when Pieve Vecchia and its surrounding land became primarily used for agriculture.
For it's position on the borders of Tuscany and the papal state, along an important road like that which connects Arezzo with Città di Castello, the Pieve Vecchia has been through the centuries an important focal pointfor whomever passed by.
Foreigners, diplomats of the powerful medieval era and the renaissance courts of central Italy, leaders of every kind found a safe haven along this short and easy voyage that flows between the extreme oriental borders of Tuscany, western Umbira and Le Marche.
The Restaurant " Pieve Vecchia " therefore starts its life evoking such memories, to recreate a famous history and embellish the arduousness and hospitality of this the upper tiber.
